A Shot of Vitamin E - ENGAGEMENT - Every Organization can use an Infusion!”
Is your organization suffering from “culture shock,” complacency or overall malaise? Chances are this condition is due to employees feeling overcommitted, undervalued and often times ignored! A satisfied employee likes their work, an engaged employee loves their company. A primary distinction of an engaged employee is the discretionary effort demonstrated to move the “needle” forward in performance and profits.

Learning outcomes for this workshop include:
  • Recognizing the symptoms of disengagement
  • Identification of performance metrics
  • A prescription for increasing engagement
  • Reward and recognition strategies that increase loyalty

Creating Order from Chaos: Vetting Technology Solutions to Address Your Property Management Pain Points
With over 3,000 companies in the proptech space, where does a property management company start in deciding what technologies it needs to address the business challenges it is facing and what companies have the answers. This panel will share insights on how can you bring order to this chaos and put in place a process for identifying and adopting innovative technologies that will solve real problems.

Moderator: John Salustri, Salustri Content Solutions
Panelists:
James Scott, IREM’s Technology Innovator-in-Residence and Lead Researcher for the MIT Real Estate Innovation Lab (REIL)
Jesse Holland, CPM, president of Sunrise Management, AMO
Michael Remorenko, Director of Sales, Yardi

Coming Soon to Your Property: Augmented Realty
Augmented Reality (AR) someday will be used in virtually all aspects of society, including real estate. The industry will be transformed when AR allows for a property to be digitally wrapped with content, generating additional revenue by selling virtual advertising. This will require zero capital expenditures. However, if landlords aren't careful they could find themselves in legal jeopardy. In 2016 the mobile AR game Pokemon Go became the top app the day it was released and encouraged players to trespass on private property in an effort to catch a Pikachu. This resulted in damages and deaths, while the unassuming land owners were on the hook for the liabilities. The session will explore how to generate revenue for a property owner by facilitating a connection between the landlord and advertisers who want to obtain a legal license to use the real estate asset for augmented reality engagements.

Excelling with Excel: Spreadsheet Techniques for Real Estate Managers
In this fast-paced session, Excel expert David Ringstrom, CPA will empower you to work more efficiently and take the tool’s features further than you ever have. David will share how to manage large workbooks with the Custom Views feature, monitor key values with the Watch Window, and calculate loan payments without using amortization tables. He’ll demo the Data Table feature with three or more variables and Pivot Tables to build a vacancy schedule. He’ll help you put your property management software reports into usable formats for analysis in Excel. You'll also uncover a few disaster recovery methods. Bring your questions!

David demonstrates every technique at least twice: first, on a PowerPoint slide with numbered steps, and second, live in Excel, calling out any differences in software versions.

Learning Objectives

  • Group, hide, and display worksheets using Custom Views
  • Apply useful shortcuts for the keyboard and quick access toolbar
  • Use the Group command for columns and rows
  • Use Watch Window to monitor ramifications of even minor workbook changes
  • Calculate loan payments without an amortization table
  • Apply and resize Data Tables to avoid repetitive formulas
  • Transform property management software reports into analysis-ready formats
  • Build a vacancy schedule by year using Pivot Tables
