Tom has been involved in virtually every aspect of commercial and residential real estate during his career. He has asset- managed retail, office, and industrial properties, totaling more than 31 million square feet and 1400 apartment units, and has been involved in countless development, acquisition, disposition, and leasing projects. Tom is a Certified Property Manager with the Institute of Real Estate Management, and senior instructor for its financial management courses in the U.S. and internationally. He has been a frequent speaker and author on real estate strategy, investment, management, and financial analysis and structuring.
Prior to joining Welsh and Colliers, Tom was Co-founder, Managing Director, and CFO of Onward Investors, LLC, responsible for asset management, managing financial performance & risks, planning & forecasting, treasury, and investor reporting. He held a similar role as CFO of Opus Northwest, L.L.C. and its development, construction, and property management divisions operating in seven offices in Northwest U.S.
Previously, as Partner in Deloitte’s Real Estate industry practice, Tom led the national Real Estate Portfolio Strategies and Operations Improvement Consulting practice. He advised premier North American and global real estate investors, lenders, corporations, and not-for-profit/government entities in strategic business planning; maximizing the economic value of their real estate portfolios; and optimizing operations, processes, and systems.
Owner/user clients at Deloitte Consulting included Allina Healthcare , American Express, BP Amoco, City of Chicago, General Electric, General Motors, ICI/Glidden, Intel, KMart, KeyBank, McDonald’s, Mikasa, PPG Industries, Royal Bank of Canada, Scotia Bank, State of Illinois, State of Wisconsin, and the U.S. Department of Defense. Investor clients included Cadillac Fairview, General Growth Properties, Kemper Financial, RREEF Funds, Taubman Companies, and Texas Teachers Retirement System.
Tom’s early career included positions in asset management with Kensington Realty Advisors and Equitable Real Estate Investment Management, Controller for a Twin Cities- based residential developer and contractor, and a staff position at Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG).
